Dear Ann, Your National Summit on Citizen Diplomacy, to be held in Washington, D.C. from November 16- 19, 2010, will be a spotlight for the impact ofc-itizen diplomacy and provide an opportunity for all Americans to get involved in engaging with others from around the world. These summits bring together members from the private sector, NGO, academic, govemment, and civil society communities and provide platforms for collaboration, sharing of best practices, and expansion of citizen diplomacy efforts. Expanding and strengthening people-to-people relationships is a strategic imperative of U.S. public diplomacy and is central to our foreign policy and national security interests. Events such as the National Summit on Citizen Diplomacy demonstrate American leadership in building relationships of mutual respect and understanding among the peoples of the world. My office applauds the National Summit on Citizen Diplomacy and the U .S. Center for Citizen Diplomacy's ambitious goal of doubling the number of American citizens of all ages to engage in international activities at home and abroad. Sincerely, Judith A. McHale Under Secretary of State for Public Diplomacy and Public Affairs
