A three year national campaign to promote global education in America’s Schools
Creating a generation of Citizen Diplomats
The U.S. needs to adequately prepare its youth quickly and early enough to understand and communicate competitively in a highly interconnected and global twenty-first century. Waiting another ten to twenty years to address the problem is too late.
Through several months of discussions with national educational organizations and state and federal agencies, the U. S. Center for Citizen Diplomacy has identified these critical needs:
- There must be a concerted effort to provide educational leadership and training more directly to states and local communities if global education concepts and international activities are to be expanded throughout the country in K-12 schools, and
- A comprehensive electronic source for information on global education would benefit K-12 educators throughout the country, providing access to updated curricular content, language resources, international travel and exchange programs and study abroad opportunities for both teachers and students.
- State and local efforts would benefit from national leadership, coordination and the facilitation of communication between those involved in providing programs for preparing the global generation. Forums, communication and coordination are needed at the state and national level for such groups as educators, nonprofit organizations, government, business, policy makers, university international studies and teacher preparation departments and travel and exchange program providers.
