USCCD Board Member Charles Manatt Passes Away

We are saddened by the passing this week of the Honorable Charles Manatt, who served on the board of directors for the U.S. Center for Citizen Diplomacy and was an Iowa native as well as former U.S. ambassador and chairman of the Democratic National Committee.

In 1992, Manatt was co-chairman of Bill Clinton's successful presidential campaign. President Clinton reacted in a statement saying, "I am deeply saddened by the passing of Chuck Manatt. We were friends for 30 years, and I saw firsthand how he used his energy, intellect and common sense to help restore the Democratic Party after 1980, to make America more prosperous and just and to make friends for our nation around the world."

Our country and all of us at the USCCD will sorely miss Chuck’s strong support of citizen engagement in international relations as well as his trademark wit. His wise counsel as well as his contacts and networks of friends were invaluable to the USCCD in our fundraising efforts and programs. His most recent special gift to the USCCD was a beautiful reception held at his Washington office during the U.S. Summit for Global Citizen Diplomacy for all of the international guests. Our condolences go out to Chuck's family and loved ones at this difficult time.
