ISEP Launches Global Engagement Program in Costa Rica and Ghana

ISEP (International Student Exchange Program) has announced a new Global Engagement Program (GEP) model that will commence in the 2012-2013 academic year. The new model will seek to help their student participants become more actively involved with their host communities abroad.
"Students really want to connect with the communities where they are studying and these programs offer new ways get them engaged - it's an exciting development!" says Linda Jewell, Exec. VP of ISEP.
The new GEP model will allow college students to partake in volunteer work, service learning for academic credit, independent studies and community service during their ISEP study abroad program. The emphasis on the local host community will enrich the participants' experience abroad and may also include ISEP excursions, organized language courses and pre-session courses.
ISEP currently has two designated GEP sites available: Costa Rica and Ghana. In addition to the new model sites, they offer student exchange programs in 50+ other countries around the world.
ISEP programs are open to both U.S. and international students enrolled and in good academic standing at an ISEP-Exchange or an ISEP Direct Member institution. Deadlines vary by program, but generally, applying three to four months in advance of when you want to travel is suggested. Learn more about how to apply at the ISEP website.
ISEP is a USCCD Member Organization, is a “network of over 300 colleges and universities in 50 countries cooperating to provide affordable access to international education for a diverse student population.” Their new emphasis on Global Engagement outside the classroom will surely benefit their members and enhance their participants’ experiences abroad.
