Building Homes in Jordan

Building Homes in Jordan

It's common knowledge that one of the main target areas for increasing citizen diplomacy and people to people activities is in the Middle East and across the rest of the Muslim world. Creative Learning, a USCCD member organization, has committed itself to peace building via projects throughout these regions, including the state of Jordan. Through Creative Learning, Americans can become "unofficial ambassadors" to the Jordanian people. The 2012 Building Peace by Building Homes gives Americans the opportunity to volunteer in one of 3 countries (Jordan, Tajikstan, and Indonesia), starting with Jordan in January.

Meet citizens of Jordan by sharing meals with families, conversing with university students, gain a broadened worldview and a new perspective of Jordan and the Middle East.

Here's what Unofficial Ambassadors can look forward to while volunteering and building houses in Jordan:

  • Build Peace by volunteering in development and forging people-to-people partnerships between American and the Muslim World
  • Work side-by-side with a Jordanian family to build their home
  • Immerse yourself in Jordanian culture and engage in cross-cultural dialogue with university students and families
  • Visit Petra (one of the new 7 Wonders of the World), the Dead Sea, and Mt. Nebo

Not only will this be a great experience to volunteer in a country that is going through a housing problem due to the regional instability of the Middle East, but also offers the chance to learn more about Jordanian culture, Islam, and the lives of the people.

Learn more at Creative Learning about how to apply, what to expect and more! Accepting applications through Friday, October 28.
